Make exercise and fitness a fun part of your day, every day.
Fresh air and exercise are keys to good health, but you can’t get them in front of a computer or TV! To have a healthy body, you need to build strength in your organs and limbs, and your lungs need plenty of fresh oxygen to make you feel your best.

Why is it so important to get active? It’s actually scarier to NOT exercise! Lack of activity is linked to being overweight, heart disease, diabetes, bones that break more easily, high blood pressure, and depression. Exercising can help prevent those problems. Not only that, but studies prove that when you get active, your grades can improve, you’ll feel better about yourself, and you’ll be more likely to stay in school. Plus, the more active you are, the more energy you’ll have!

In North America, nearly half (40%) of kids ages 5 to 8 are overweight. One of the main reasons? They’re NOT active enough! In fact, 14 kids in every 100 report that they are not active at all–every day. The news is not good for girls–twice as many girls are inactive compared to boys.

Don’t become a statistic. And don’t think you need to create a whole exercise routine at a gym. The goal of every person is 30 minutes of daily, moderate-intensity activity–that means doing things like walking to school, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, gardening, raking leaves, walking the dog—even making a snowman. Even short bursts of 5-10 minutes at a time can make a difference! For other ideas, check out Natural Moves.
