away, in a country called The Philippines,
Kidsregen reporter Peter Y. wrote to tell
us about some kids who have just been introduced
to digging in the dirt. The kids and some
adults cleared the soil in a rocky lot in
the city of Manila so they could start growing
their food organically.

Here are some things our Filipino
friends said when asked about their little community
farm!
Angelica
A., 10 years old
I feel happy when I'm there weeding the
grass and cultivating.
I've seen worms, centipedes, and a grasshopper.
Being there made me want to help improve
the farm.
Annalyn
M., 14 years old
I think the farm is beautiful and
I like the clean, fresh air. I feel like
I'm getting more exercise and I can relax.
What I want to plant are vegetables like
cabbage, carrots, petchay,
and squash.
Angela M.,
13 years old
When I first went to the farming area, it
was just soil, but now it's become a farm,
greatly improved. The harder I cultivate
the soil, the more exercise my body gets
which makes me feel like I have more
energy. The clean air is refreshing. I want
this to be a plentiful, healthy farm! From
now on, I want to grow carrots, ampalaya,
and cabbage.
Richard
S., 9 years old
I feel happy while tilling
the soil and I really enjoy planting and
harvesting vegetables on the farm. I want
to learn much more about planting ALL kinds
of vegetables and trees. I think it's important
to prepare the land well for farming, and
it's important for everybody to cooperate
in order to improve our garden.
