The Philippines is an archipelago in Southeastern
Asia, made up of 7,107 large and small islands. If you put all those
islands together, it would be slightly larger than the state of
Arizona. The climate is tropical marine (which means wet and warm)
and there's a rainy season from June to October. In Manila, the
capital city, the average temperature is 85ºF (29.4ºC)
in the hottest months March to May and 78ºF (25.4ºC)
in the coolest months November to February. English and Filipino
(a language based on the native speech of "Tagalog") are
official languages, and there are eight major dialects. About 83
million people live there.
